Chapter Fifteen

I sat in the back, and Shift took the front. By the time we left it was the middle of the morning. Horse pulled the cart through a different gate than we had entered. Thankfully, it was not the same gate the Owlbear had come through either. The forest was in that direction, and the recommended level was at least ten. Once we were outside the gate, I hit my notifications.

New Level: Level 6

I groaned on the inside. I should have leveled at the temple, but I’d brushed off the rest of my notifications after getting my reward for helping take down the owlbear. At least I had a bunch of skill points to assign. Still, I held off to see what other notifications I had.

New Skill Level: Force Arrow

New Skill Level: Crippling Shot

New Achievement: You have survived combat with a monster double your level. You must be lucky. Reward: 2 Tokens

New Achievement: You have taken down a monster double your level. Reward: 3 Tokens

New Achievement: You have 5,000 followers. Reward: 1 Token

New Achievement: You have 1 Subscriber. Reward: 1 Token

A subscriber? Was that Branch? Or maybe his wife? Hopefully, he’d be okay. He had to have at least as much Bitz as I had, so around 1,500. If the exchange rate was still around 200-to-1 then he should be able to pay off his kid's debt and part of his own. I really hoped it would be enough, and that I’d made the right call. Yet, I couldn’t doubt it now. I’d made the call and it was done.

New Achievement: You helped another player at a detriment to yourself. Reward: 5 Tokens

You can now access the Token Shop. You have 27 tokens you can spend.

I now had an additional tab on my menu called Token Shop. When I opened it up a giant list of special items appeared, with several filters at the top.

Warning, any items purchased from the Token shop cannot be sold, gifted or exchanged in any way. They are bound to your player account.

“Hex, what does that mean?” I asked.

“A bound item is bound to you. You are the only one that can use it and the only way to get rid of it is to toss it or to disassemble it.”

I nodded as I hit the filter for weapons, and then for bows. My eyes almost popped out as the list appeared.

“You’ll want to check the box for things you can use, or within a few levels of you,” said Hex. “Several of these items have level and skill requirements.”

Sure enough, the first one required me to be level 25 and have my stealth at 20. I hit the checkbox, so it only showed items I could use +2 levels or + 5 skill points. The list shortened immediately, but it was still pretty extensive. This was going to take some time to go through.

“How do I get the items?” I asked Hex.

“They’ll show up at the temple in the town that you send it to.
